Trade Game

The Nationals have expressed interest in Dexter Fowler and the Rockies have responded.  When I say Nationals, I mean the SweetSpot site, Nationals Baseball.  And, when I say Rockies, I mean Blake Street Bulletin.  That’s right — hypothetical trade game.

Harper Gordeck, the GM at Nationals Baseball, has asked only for Fowler.  I told him that if they gave us a nice pitching prospect and maybe a corner infielder, then they can have him.  To which Harper kindly gave us a list of players to choose from.  Of course, in true Dan O’Dowd form, I’m deferring all of the grunt work to the minions — that’s you.  Scout these guys up and tell me if any fit what we are looking for.  Remember, if they ever played quarterback at anytime in their life, they are perfect for the Rockies. Here’s what Harper has proposed:

The Nats would probably start by trying to trade Ian Desmond (who’s developed into a nice fielder this season but hasn’t yet hit in the majors),  Chris Marrero (first base prospect that K’s alot given his moderate power but is still young), and Ross Detwiler (former first round pick that is struggling this year)  Thinking as your team would any of that be enough? I’m assuming your GM would counter by floating out a Jordan Zimmermann or Danny Espinoss request and that would also go nowhere so after that the most common names bandied about in deals would be these guys :

Tom Milone – Total control pitcher who does nothing but win but doesn’t rate out as a Top 10 prospect.

Brad Peacock – A hard-thrower that after years of “will he get it” seemingly has finally gotten it  (borderline top 10 for Nats at beginning of year would be Top 5 now)

Steve Lombardozzi – MI who should hit for decent average with enough patience but little pop (top 5)

Derek Norris – Catcher how has the patience and power, and is improving with his D.  Question is will the average pan out.  Expendable thanks to Ramos (usually #3)

Here are some other relevant links that should help with the decision making process:

And, of course, each players’ Fangraphs page:

Brad Peacock

Steve Lombardozzi

Derek Norris

Your work has been laid out for you.  Get to it.

Desmond wouldn’t work because of Tulo already being set at Short and I’m not convinced Desmond has the arm for 3rd. Detwiller has too much command issues, pitching at Coors would destroy his mindset and make that worse (see the careers of pitchers like Shawn Chacon, Chin-Hui Tsao, Denny Stark, etc… and those are just post-humidor Rockies starters). I do really like what i see from Milone, he doesn’t have the best velocity to rely upon, so he has learned to pitch. With the combination of Milone’s potential, the Rockies outfield depth, and Fowler having pushed me beyond my tolerance for him, I am okay with a straight-up Fowler for Milone deal.

Damn, I found this late! I like this game and will take a look at what’s being offered. Like the Rockies, I took the day off from baseball and had fun in the sun. :-) Hey, maybe the Nationals would like to trade for Jim Tracy?
