Charlie Blackmon fractures foot

It is becoming painfully obvious the Rockies are suffering a rash of injuries lately and catching a bunch of bad breaks. Get it? See what I did there?

Carlos Gonzalez crashed into the center field wall in Denver and suffered contusions on both wrists and has missed four games this week.

Troy Tulowitzki had his right quad tighten up on him on Monday and rather than rush back and injure himself further he has missed three games and will hopefully play this weekend and in the All-Star game.

Now the Rockies have lost Charlie Blackmon due to a fractured foot. Blackmon slid into third base during the Rockies v Braves game on Thursday in the top of the third inning and apparently the way his foot got caught under him on the slide was enough to fracture his foot. To add insult to injury (see, did it again) Blackmon did not need to slide. There was no throw to third base.

The speculation has already begun as to who the Rockies will recall from AAA to take Blackmon’s place on the roster.

Cole Garner waited in Atlanta the past three days before heading back to AAA because the posibility loomed that CarGo or Tulo would be placed on the DL with their injuries. Today it was decided both would be OK and not need to be placed on the 15-day DL so Garner boarded a plane this morning to catch up with the Sky Sox. Will Garner land and immediately board another plane and head to Washington DC? The Rockies will be traveling to DC immediately after Thursday’s game in Atlanta to take on the Nationals for three games before the All-Star break.

Or will the Rockies recall Dexter Fowler? In 20 games with the Sky Sox Fowler is batting .222/.344/.321 and those numbers do not beg to be noticed by Jim Tracy and the Rockies.

Who takes Blackmon’s spot on the roster will be most likely officially announced tomorrow from Nationals Park in DC.
