After Dan O’Dowd signed had epic fails last offseason with the likes of Jose Lopez and Ty Wigginton I read this:
With Michael Cuddyer and Josh Willingham looking for three-year contracts, the possibility exists that the Rockies will shift their focus to a more powerful platoon player to pair with Seth Smith. With that in mind, the Rockies have expressed interest in free agent outfielder Jonny Gomes, according to Troy E. Renck of The Denver Post.
That is from MLBTradeRumors.com.

If this were hockey and the Rockies needed an enforcer than Gomes would be their man...but this is baseball.
Gomes is a career .242/.329/.451 hitter with a career OPS+ of 106. That might be OK if he played second base…but from a corner outfielder? To add to the heaping pile of crap his career UZR/150 is -14 according to FanGraphs. He is essentially an average player; his defense is utterly awful but he does hit home runs…and strike out.
Gomes is a player who is not going to get better (turns 31 in a few days) and is in no way an upgrade over Seth Smith in the outfield.
Someone pull that phone from O’Dowd’s hand and send him to Madagascar for a few weeks before he does damage to the Rockies before the season even starts.
